Iranian nuclear capabilities will be the main topic at a conference on Middle East peace in Warsaw later this week where Netanyahu will meet U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“The first issue on the agenda is Iran — how to continue preventing it from entrenching in Syria, how to thwart its aggression in the region and, above all, how to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.
But America’s push to set the agenda for Middle East peace is being met with resistance. Most countries, if they are attending, have sent low-level delegates, if any at all. The United States is sponsoring this conference in order to put more pressure on Iran and gain stronger backing for Israel.
Palestinians, boycotting the event, called it an “American conspiracy.” …making it the first conspiracy done out in the open, with a clear agenda, which leaves me wondering if the Palestine think the word “conspiracy” means something else.
“Our position remains clear: We are not going to attend this conference and reiterate that we have not mandated anyone to talk on behalf of #Palestine,” Palestine Liberation Organization Secretary-General Saeb Erekat wrote on Twitter.
The PA has boycotted any American-led initiative since President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
