An Italian court ruled on Monday that calling Jerusalem the capital of Israel is tantamount to “disseminating incorrect information.”

The ruling follows a lawsuit filed against an Italian TV game show L’Eradita after the show’s host ruled “Tel Aviv” the incorrect answer to the question asking for the name of Israel’s capital during an episode in May.

Host Flavio Insinna said the correct answer was “Jerusalem.” Since then different Insinna has apologized for raising the issue, saying there were different viewpoints on the matter.

However, the Palestinian Association in Italy and the Association of Solidarity with the Palestinian People sued the network, RAI, and the judge ruled in their favor.

“The Italian State does not recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” Court of Rome Judge Cecilia Pratesi wrote in her ruling. “It is well known that on Dec. 21, 2017, Italy voted in favor of a UN General Assembly Resolution rejecting the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”

Of course the question wasn’t what city do Italians regard as Israel’s capital, but what is Israel’s capital. David conquered Jerusalem more than 3000 years ago.

Insinna will have to deliver a statement saying, “International law does not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel,” according to Italian media.
