She definitely earned this one: U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar has been voted 2019’s anti-Semite of the year, an annual “honor” bestowed by the organization StopAntiSemitism.org.
If you’ve been following our news in the past year, this certainly comes as no surprise. Omar, the freshman congresswoman from Minnesota, has repeatedly used anti-Jewish tropes and voted against the State of Israel on numerous occasions. She supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.
“Among Rep. Ilhan Omar’s transgressions, she perpetuated anti-Semitic tropes on Twitter to nearly two million followers and introduced an anti-Semitic resolution in Congress that promoted boycotts of the State of Israel and likened them to boycotts of Nazi Germany,” StopAntiSemitism.org said in a press release. “The public’s vote highlights the growing concern among Americans about the Congresswomen’s ability to use and abuse her position of power to propagate hatred in the U.S.”
In the past couple years, Omar has accused American Jews of dual loyalty and of buying influence with money. Regarding Israel, she once said Israel has hypnotized the world. And she stands by her statements. Omar is also supported by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.
StopAntisemitism.org posted the results of the vote on Twitter this week.
“Mazal Tov to Ilhan Omar on being named 2019’s Antisemite of the Year! Thousands voted & the Freshmen Congresswoman came out on top as the most vile Jew hater! America cannot afford leadership that perpetuates hatred against the Jewish people!”
Omar was in “good” company: the other top nominees included Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, black nationalist and black supremacist, and Richard Spencer, an American neo-Nazi and self-declared white supremacist.
